Author Information
Catherine Itsiopoulos is a recognised leader in Dietetics and researcher in Mediterranean diet studies in Australia and internationally. She is an accredited practising dietitian, a senior academic on the Australian Dietetics Council, and is the founding head of the department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition at La Trobe University. Her current role is Head of Department of Rehabilitation, Nutrition and Sport where she heads five disciplines: dietetics and human nutrition, physiotherapy, podiatry, exercise science, and prosthetics and orthotics. Previous positions include Associate Dean International Faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University (2013-2014), Head of School of nutrition and dietetics, University of Canberra (2009-2010), manager Accreditation and recognition Services, Dietitians Association of Australia (2004-2010), Fellow of the CRE in Diabetes, University of Melbourne (2007-2010), Senior Lecturer Health Services Management, RMIT University (2000-2003), Lecturer Dietetics and MPH Coordinator, Deakin University (1994-2000), Dietetics Clinician/ Research Dietitian and A/Department Manager, Alfred Hospital/ Austin/ Royal Adelaide (1987-1993). Her qualifications include Bachelor of Science (UoM, 1984, BSc (Hons) (Deakin; 1985), Graduate Diploma in Dietetics (Deakin; 1986), Master of Public Health (Monash, 1994), PhD (UoM, 2007). Catherine has an established research leadership role at La Trobe University. As leader of the Food for Life research program, member of the steering committee for the Understanding Disease Research Focus Area, member of the Food North Research Collaborative and chair of the Northern Centre for Health Education & Research working group, she has been well positioned to build strategic research partnerships with health services and food industry.
Catherine's specific research area of interest is Mediterranean diet studies focused both on migration impact on diet and lifestyle and chronic disease risk and dietary clinical trials using the traditional (archetypal) Cretan Mediterranean diet (and elements of) as intervention models in the prevention and management of metabolic syndrome, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and depression and mood disorders. Her interests span whole of diet interventions, modulating individual components of diet such as n3/n6 ratio and pharmacological doses of long-chain n-3 FAs through diet, and culinary herb and spice placebo controlled capsule trials. Her clinical laboratory interests include measurement of dietary intake, plasma biomarkers of diet (carotenoids, polyphenols, fatty acids), body composition and body fat distribution, and inflammatory markers of CVD risk.
Catherine has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications with 444 citations including 12 papers in the last five years with at least 10 citations. Catherine has also authored an RACGP HANDII Guideline on Mediterranean Diet in CHD management (May 2014), three book chapters and co-edited a nutrition textbook. She is the author of The Mediterranean Diet and The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook.

AGREED TERMS OF SERVICE:
GRANT OF RIGHTS
The Company grants to the Licensee a free, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the Content throughout in Australia, for a period of one year, solely for the promotion of the Book for both print and digital reproduction subject to the limitations set forth in this TOS.
RESTRICTIONS ON USE OF VISUAL CONTENT
The Licensee may not:
use Content other than as expressly provided by the licence with respect to the Content.
portray any person depicted in the Content in a way that a reasonable person would find offensive, including but not limited to depicting the person:
in connection with pornography, “adult videos”, adult entertainment venues, escort services, dating services, or the like;
in connection with the advertisement or promotion of tobacco products;
in a political context, such as the promotion, advertisement or endorsement of any party, candidate, or elected official, or in connection with any political policy or viewpoint;
as suffering from, or medicating for, a physical or mental ailment; or
engaging in immoral or criminal activities;
use any Content in a pornographic, defamatory, or deceptive context, or in a manner that could be considered libellous, obscene, or illegal;
modify Content in a manner that changes the context of what is depicted;
use Content for commercial purposes, including for reference, in any advertising, merchandise or other non-editorial contexts;
use Content in a manner that infringes upon any third party’s trademark or other intellectual property, or would give rise to a claim of deceptive advertising or unfair competition;
use any Content (in whole or in part) as a trademark, service mark, logo, or other indication of origin, or as part thereof;
falsely represent, expressly or by way of reasonable implication, that any Content was created by you or a person other than the copyright holder(s) of that Content.
WARRANTIES AND INDEMNITIES
The Licensee releases the Company, its assignees and licensees from and against all claims that may arise from its use of the Content. The Licensee agrees to indemnify the Company for all costs and expenses that the Company incurs in the event that you breach any of the terms of this or any other agreement with the Company.
