This is the tale of Geigi, a stubborn boy on an island far away who gets into all sorts of mischief. Created by Elliot and Michael Passi, Geigi the Stubborn Boy is a retelling of a Meriam story from Mer in the Torres Strait - brought to life by striking and fun illustrations.
Author Information
Michael Passi is a Torres Strait Islander man who enjoys telling traditional stories to a modern audience. He loves his culture, coming up with ideas for projects, and writing television and movie scripts as well as comedy sketches (he was credited as a co-writer of a skit on the television show Black Comedy). Michael wanted to tell this story because he has a passion for storytelling and a drive to see more Torres Strait Islander culture featured in Australia.
Elliot Passi is a 23-year-old Torres Strait Islander artist who enjoys all things creative and nerdy, from drawing characters to playing D&D and other weird hobbies. He is very passionate about his culture and storytelling. Elliot wanted to tell this story because he grew up reading lots of different creation stories but none that came from his people. It is a big passion of his to give kids the representation that he didn't get while growing up.
