We are extremely selective in accepting works for publication and are currently cutting back on our publishing programme, so only works of the highest level of originality and market appeal can be considered. We do not accept submissions for short story collections, poetry or children's picture books.

All submissions should contain:

  • Covering letter of no more than 1 or 2 pages, giving a brief account of the book's subject, why it was written, and details of the author's background and qualifications for writing it. (A CV may also be useful.)

  • (for non-fiction): a detailed chapter outline; or (for fiction): a brief (one page or less) synopsis of the plot.

  • A note on the author's view of the potential market/readership of the book.

  • The first 3 chapters (preferably) or several selected finished chapters.

  • Photocopies of selected illustrations or photos (if applicable).

All material must be typed, double spaced, on one side only of A4 paper, with generous (1.5 inch/4cm) margins on the left and right. Please ensure all pages are numbered consecutively. No handwritten or single-spaced submissions will be considered.

We only accept hardcopy submissions - submissions on disk or via e-mail will not be accepted.

All of your contact details (ie. name, address, phone/fax number, e-mail address) should be clearly marked on the letter and on the front page of the manuscript. Address to: THE PUBLISHING DEPARTMENT at the address below. We will post a letter containing our response, but if you also want your entire submission returned, please enclose a suitably-sized stamped self-addressed envelope — submissions will not be returned unless return postage is enclosed. Assessment takes 10-12 weeks.
