Scott Simon

Scott Simon
In 2013, the American broadcaster sent a series of tweets to his 1.25 million followers from his mother's beside. His communications went viral. His community was struck by the honesty and compassion with which he communicated his thoughts and feelings about his mother's illness and her death. In 2015, he published his book, Unforgettable, a tribute to his remarkable mother and a reminder to us all that death is what gives our lives meaning.

Scott's career has spanned decades. He has reported from fifty states, five continents, and ten wars, from El Salvador to Sarajevo to Afghanistan and Iraq. He is now the host of NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday. With over 4 million listeners it is the most-listened to news program on NPR. Simon has won a Peabody and an Emmy for his reporting and is one of America's most admired writers, having contributed articles to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times Book Review, The Wall Street Journal, The Sunday Times of London, The Guardian, and Gourmet among other publications.

Scott is a native of Chicago, is married with two children and is the son of comedian Ernie Simon and Patricia Lyons Simon (so beautifully immortalised in Unforgettable). His hobbies are books, theatre, ballet, British comedy, Mexican cooking and "bleeding" for the Chicago Cubs.
