Steve Strevens
In 1959, at the age of 11, Steve Strevens emigrated from England with his parents. After a rather unsuccessful stint in school, he joined the navy two weeks after his sixteenth birthday. He stayed for 10 years, serving in Vietnam, Malaysia and Borneo and after leaving the navy he worked at several jobs, including as a freelance writer. He was a regular contributor to The Age for many years and has been published in many major newspapers and magazines both here and overseas. He is a multi-award-winning journalist and has edited two regional newspapers. His books include Slow River: A Journey Down the Murray, Bob Rose: A Dignified Life and The Jungle Dark. He lives on the Far South Coast of New South Wales with his partner and their two ageing, lovable but quite mad dogs.
