27 AUGUST 2020

As a teenager growing up in Sierra Leone during the country's 11-year civil war, Aminata Conteh-Biger was kidnapped by rebel forces. After her release, Aminata was granted refugee status to Australia, the first Sierra Leonean refugee woman to be so. Since then, she has forged an incredible life as a performer, speaker, wife, mother and now author. The Aminata Maternal Foundation she founded supports and empowers women and children in Sierra Leone. Taken from the pages of her autobiography Rising Heart, written with revered Australian author Juliet Riden, this event sees Aminata in conversation with literary critic Nicole Abadee.
